Christian Youth WANT Apologetics Training!
On Christianity Today’s website this morning, Christ Norton wrote about the newly rekindled passion for apologetics among Christian teens. Norton quotes Sean McDowell, head of Worldview Ministries, “Challenging the cultural climate is a major component of the new apologetics. The apologetics resurgence has been sparked ultimately by teens who are asking more questions about why people believe the things they do.”
It has been amazing to watch as Christians begin to really grasp the framework of One-ism and Two-ism as a means to analyze and respond to non-Christian influences around them both as a defense of their beliefs and also in order to share the gospel with friends and loved ones. Among young Christians, especially, there have been moments of true joy and excitement as the apologetic tool we offer begins to open up opportunities they’ve never had before to share and defend their faith.
Recently, at two different truthXchange events, we received these wonderful comments from participants:
“[This] will make be bolder about speaking the truth; more conscious about presenting the power of Christ to change people, more careful about listening to my audience for evidence of what I’ve been hearing about.”
“I was empowered with new vocabulary to relate truth to people within my own culture.”
WOW.
We never tire or hearing things like this and praising God.
Norton concludes his article with this quote:
“Ginny Olson, a Minneapolis-based youth ministry consultant, said youth leaders are increasingly aware that neither relational evangelism nor apologetics alone are effective vehicles for truth.”
We agree. It is not an either/or kind of need that Christian teens and young adults have – a strict apologetic method or relationships alone. We believe that the message we share gives Christians an understanding and language that allows them to share truth in their relationships and interactions with others in a confident, Biblical way.
