Announcing Our Next Think Tank: The Beauty of Two
It has been my privilege as an employee here at truthXchange to be a part of two think tanks and a large public conference, and I’ve had the chance to listen to and watch much more content from past years as we’ve worked to provide all of it for free online. The knowledge and perspective I’ve gained from learning about One-ism are invaluable to my walk as a Christian in this culture as I look for ways to engage with those around me who need the truth of Christ.
But I long, and many have expressed a similar longing, to glory in the saving, wonderful truth of the Biblical perspective. We do not struggle against the lies of One-ism simply to win a battle of right and wrong. We struggle against the lies of One-ism because they attempt to demolish the wonderful, life-giving, truth of Two-ism.
One of my favorite things at the truthXchange office is when Mrs. Jones declares in the middle of conversations, “Two is better!!” She never says it without an accompanying smile of glee and it always causes me to stop and remember that, yes, Two-ism IS better. Two-ism is downright beautiful.
When we bow our heads to pray, we do not send out thoughts into a shapeless universe of chance. Rather, we converse with a God who knows us by name, loves us to death and beyond, and has a plan and purpose for everything under heaven. When we read scripture, we do not read the rambling, disconnected stories of many men conspiring across the ages to make a few wise points. We are reading the Word of God, inspired and protected through the ages by His sovereignty so that we might have a “light for our feet” and a “lamp for our path.” When we consider the awe-inspiring breadth of a sunset over the Pacific, or the graceful expanse of a valley beneath our feet when we stand on a mountain top, the ache we feel is not because we’re overwhelmed by passing, finite beauty. Our hearts ache because something inside us is designed to know that everything we survey in creation is telling us that there is something more. There is Someone behind it all.
This year at the 2012 Think Tank in Escondido, CA, we look forward to considering, studying, and rejoicing in The Beauty of Two. As you can tell, I can’t wait. It’s a joy to get to announce it to you all.
