Two-ism and the Incarnation: Dr. Dennis E. Johnson Speaker Profile
As we enter into the final countdown to the 2012 truthXchange Think Tank, we thought that we might share some of our excitement about the coming program by providing profiles for each of the speakers who will be with us February 7-10. So, each week until the time of the event, we will be posting about several of our speakers and their backgrounds.
One of the first speakers we will hear this year is Dr. Dennis Johnson of Westminster Seminary California.
In his statements about what he wants to instill in his students at Westminster Seminary California, Dr. Johnson says, in part, “…I want to make sure my students are trusting in Christ’s death and his righteousness alone for their standing before God. I also want my students to leave WSC as servants of Christ who are winsomely bold. Not arrogantly bold, but humbly bold.” Reading this makes me smile because I believe that Dr. Johnson teaches, in part, by example and I’ve heard some of his students say the same.
I have the privilege of writing to you about Dr. Johnson from personal experience rather than simply hearing about him by reputation. Growing up, I went to the same church as the Johnsons, attended youth group events and community groups at their home, and had the privilege of sitting under his preaching over the years. The impression that I have been left with consistently and have had confirmed by many people around me is this: Dennis Johnson is tenderly, sincerely in love with Jesus.
How lovely then, to think of Dr. Johnson presenting to us about Two-ism and the Incarnation in one of the foundational messages of The Beauty of Two: Making a World of Difference next month, February 7-10, 2011.
Professionally, Dr. Johnson comes with a wealth of experience including time as a pastor, the writing of several books, and his current role as Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Seminary California. “The Incarnation is a stupendous miracle and an impenetrable mystery. This is the only place where the Creator and the creature are mysteriously joined in the same person — “without confusion”…The two incompatible realities rush towards each other, and meet in the peaceful, willing womb of an underage, unwed mother. This had never happened before and will never happen again. The Creator inexplicably, yet truly, becomes a creature — not to make humans divine, but to reconcile a holy God and sinful humanity by wiping out the guilt of sin for those who believe.” Dr. Peter Jones, One or Two
