A Queer Book

By Dr. Peter Jones

“The Queering of the American Child: How a New School Religious Cult Poisons the Minds and Bodies of Normal Kids”
by Logan Lancing and James Lindsay

A Definition of Queer Theory

I looked forward to reading this book’s definition of Queer Theory (QT) and its effects on our children. (QT refers to “queer homosexuals” and LGBTQ ideology.) I hoped the book would give clarity to a movement that exposes LGBTQ+ thinking, which justifies disordered sexual practice among children as well as adults.

A definition of QT appears in the Introduction. QT seeks to “push children to destabilize tradition, eliminate social norms and poison their minds…(ix).” The book denies the value of trangenderism (xvi), as well as recent theories of gender and gender identity (xviii). Apparently, this is a conservative book. A decidedly gay reviewer states that:

there is nothing in this book that is accurate, it’s full of hate mongering, misinformation and propaganda. It promotes a Christian white nationalist agenda and is harmful to every LGBTQ person.

This is indeed a book of conservative convictions except in one area—it justifies homosexual practice. The author defines “queering” as the rejection of anything normative, including binary sexuality (that is heterosexuality) (99), and shows how Drag Queen Story Hour affirms this destabilizing effect on children. Lancing’s theory is that when a society has not agreed on reasonable, healthy sexual norms and behaviors, then unreasonable and unhealthy ideas will fill the vacuum—like men becoming women. But Lancing wants to grant that homosexuality is part of normative living. He states:

Queer Theory has nothing to do with being gay or lesbian. Gay identity…is rooted in the positive fact of homosexual object-choice…(proposed as) a stable reality.[1]

Citing gay author, David Halperin, the book accepts homosexuality as a positive (thus normative) stabilizing factor in a child’s mind, unlike the noxious results of Queer Theory (114-15). Unfortunately, many conservative thinkers consider homosexuality in exactly this way.

The Idol of our Time

As this book shows, our culture does not know how to deal with LGBTQ reality, which it seeks to normalize. In her Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age, Rosaria Butterfield calls LGBTQ+ ideology “the idol of our time.” Her Lie #1 is “treating homosexuality as normal.”[2] Progressives and many conservatives happily affirm this lie. Carl Trueman wrote recently,

In the coming decade every single church still calling itself Christian will face a choice: Do we follow Scriptural revelation, or the Sexual Revolution? The cross, or the rainbow flag?[3]

Many evangelicals fail to realize this stark choice. Evangelical pastor, Ken Wilson in his influential book, A Letter to My Congregation (2014) states: “We’re all—male and female—part of the bride of Christ.” He adds: “Maybe we are being asked (by the Spirit) to relax around gender distinctions a little (my italics).”[4] “Evangelical” Preston Sprinkle, a well-known exponent of the so-called Side B position on homosexuality, holds great influence on the student ministry CRU. He states: “I would say being same-sex attracted, while being a part of one’s fallen nature, is not a morally culpable sin that one needs to repent for.”[5] Modern culture, like certain evangelicals, normalizes and justifies gay behavior. This was not always the case.

As late as 1960, all fifty states maintained laws criminalizing sodomy. But things are changing. A strong majority of Americans now says that homosexual relations should be legal, and that the lifestyle is acceptable.[6] “Nearly every major U.S. brand promulgates the LGBT agenda.”[7] The government’s Center for Disease Control gives further present acceptance of LGBTQ practice: the number of LGBTQ students went from 11 percent in 2015 to 26 percent in 2021.[8] During the 2023 American baseball season, the Los Angeles Dodgers honored, not merely featured, an LGBT activist group, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, composed of men dressed mockingly as Catholic nuns.

This lifestyle affirmation became more formal at the end of 2023, with the “Proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month.” President Joe Biden declared the month of June to be a time for all Americans to “recognize the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, to celebrate the great diversity of the American people, and to wave their flags of pride high.”[9]

It is little wonder that the LGBTQ community is coming for our children. Lesbian author Patricia Nell Warren put it most succinctly: “Whoever captures the kids owns the future.”[10] The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus sings:

“We’re coming for your children.

“We’ll convert your children

Happens bit by bit

Quietly and subtly

And you will barely notice it…

You won’t approve of where they go at night.”

This agenda operates against the backdrop of a new movement called MAPS, Minor Attracted Persons, that is, pedophiles. Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates, has invested tens of millions of dollars into a radical nongovernmental organization: The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), which is endorsed by the World Health Organization, a group pushing for young children to be considered “sexual beings.” About what children under 10 should be taught, the IPPF states: “Sexual activity may be part of different types of relationships, including dating, marriage, or commercial sex work, among others.” About this same group, the IPPF also declares, “as you grow up, you might start to be interested in people with diverse gender identities.”[11]

What Future?

As Christians we must ask what the future holds. At the end of the Sixties Revolution, Jungian psychologist[12] and Gnostic spiritualist,[13] June Singer, wrote a 1997 book Androgyny: Towards a New Sexuality.[14] At the end of the Sixties Revolution, she saw and affirmed that the spiritual age of Aquarius was also the age of “androgyny” (the blending of male and female in bi-sexuality, homosexuality and transgenderism). She also correctly predicted the coming cosmology of a “new humanism,” a radical rejection of the biblical God and the cosmology of the Western Christian past.[15]

We now see the far-flung effects of what Singer saw so long ago. One religious implication was recently developed in the California State Board of Education, by Tolteka Cuauhtin, co-chair of the committee that developed the Ethnic Studies curriculum for California.[16] He argues that the US was founded on a “Eurocentric, white supremacist (racist, anti-black, anti-indigenous), capitalist, patriarchal (sexist and misogynistic), heteropatriarchal (homophobic) and anthropocentric paradigm brought from Europe.”[17] He encourages teachers to lead their students in indigenous songs, chants and affirmations to the Aztec deity Tezcatlipoca, who was worshiped with human sacrifice and cannibalism, calling for his help in becoming warriors for social justice. The practice is called “ritualized androgynization,”[18] which celebrates the non-binary pagan god, indistinct from creation and served by non-binary androgynous or homosexual priests.

We face a future conflict between the pagan gods and the true God, as in Roman times and many other such times. The conflict is rooted in the deep issues of religion. Homosexual practice is essential to pagan animism throughout the centuries and is widely expressed in South American spirituality (among others). Understanding this brings clarity to our present situation. We will see our culture more clearly as we understand why Scripture takes such a firm view about marriage and sexuality. Singer predicts our “androgynous future,” so Christians must understand the deep relationship between sexuality and spirituality. Homosexuality is not merely a part of a moralistic individual choice. Ultimately, the confrontation between sexuality and spirituality is a confrontation between the pagan gods and the God of the Bible. “These deities will be resurrected and restored to their rightful place in the social justice cosmology,”[19] thereby creating an end-time Sodom and Gomorrah.

God’s Definition of Sexuality and Marriage

The institution of human marriage in Genesis 2:24 uniquely reflects the trinitarian image of God. This is not a human but a divine choice: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Gen 1:27). The Apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 6:16 applies this statement to all sexual relationships. Being different (male and female) yet “one flesh” reflects God’s own image: three persons in one divine being. A god-honoring male/female marriage is a powerful reflection of the very being of God.

If same-sex marriage is the sacrament of Oneism or the non-binary (the essence of paganism), it is not surprising to find in Scripture that heterosexual marriage is presented as the ultimate “mystery” of Gospel Twoism (Eph 5:32). “This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.” Paul is picking up Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

Marriage exhibits the great mystery of the cosmos. At the beginning, God the Creator, distinct from his creation, reveals himself in the institution of marriage as lover of the “other,” distinct from himself. So Genesis 2:24 is the first announcement of the Gospel. Paul has been “entrusted with revealing the mysteries of God” (1 Cor 4:1), “who created all things,” to reveal what the Creator was doing and who the Creator really is. This is how it can be said of God already in the Old Testament:

…just as a husband loves his wife, and as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride, so shall your God rejoice in you (Isaiah 62:5)

The future unveiling of the pagan South American gods and their homosexual priests, taught to our children, reminds us of our cosmic task as human beings. We must faithfully exhibit the Creator’s image throughout our lives, bearing witness to the world, in particular through our sexuality. This is part of how we love God. Christians must express this truth to the world both in our own sexuality and in our love for homosexuals. The heterosexual mandate is not hate-filled bigotry or legalism. The principle of the binary and the mystery revealed in marriage is the vital cosmological concept without which there is no future human civilization, no love, no gospel, and no redemption. This is how the cosmos works. This is how we love our neighbor. We speak the clarity and power of God’s love in the Gospel into this fallen world, without which people have no hope of genuine, everlasting love. We cannot be faithful to the gospel if we are not faithful to the divine revelation regarding how the divine being is reflected in human sexuality.

Already in 1970, the radicality of the sexual revolution was in evidence. The Gay Revolution Party Manifesto of 1978 predicted: “the gay revolution will produce a world in which all social and sensual relationships will be gay and in which homo- and heterosexuality will be incomprehensible terms.”[20] We did not realize how radical this would be but what must go are the final bulwarks of creational difference, the XY and XX chromosomes written by God the creator into our DNA.[21] At this point, such a powerful cosmology, erected in the name of civil rights, takes on the unmistakably religious character of spiritual pagan Oneism. The official normalization of the LGBTQ agenda is an expression of pagan Marxism.

The once Christian West is looking more and more like the ancient pagan world, becoming both spiritually and sexually pagan, from which it may never recover, and especially if the church, in vast numbers, adopts the culture’s norms.

Back in 1968 (one year before the Stonewall Riots), Francis Schaeffer wrote, “much modern homosexuality is an expression of the current denial of antithesis or the binary. It has led in this case to an obliteration of the distinction between man and woman. So the male and the female as complementary partners are finished.”[22]

Christianity’s decline in the West today is leading not to austere secularism, but to a wild flowering of shamanic healers, spirit crystals, transcendental maharishis, and an openness to all kinds of pan-sexual practices. This you must understand. The once Christian West is looking more and more like the ancient pagan world, becoming both spiritually and sexually pagan, from which it may never recover, and especially if the church, in vast numbers, adopts the culture’s norms.

I say again, we are facing a progressive Sodom and Gomorrah, celebrating “those shameful acts against nature, such as were committed in Sodom, which ought everywhere and always to be detested,” as wrote St. Augustine of Hippo.[23] The Christian church must have the courage to witness to God and to the fallen world in our binary/Twoist sexuality—that our neighbors and our children may face the image of God and hence know Him.

Jung’s followers, like June Singer and Toby Johnson develop Jung’s thinking to include the full justification of homosexuality.
